In July 2023, the European Commission published a draft concept paper for proposed candidate partnerships under the second Horizon Europe Strategic Plan, including one on Advanced Materials “IAM4EU”. The candidate partnership is currently at a proposal stage and will only be confirmed with the adoption of the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 25-27 in March this year.

To open consultation on the SRIA, AMI2030 organised a kick-off event in September 2023, followed by a series of online workshops conducted during October to discuss the proposed R&I areas and associated priorities. To complement the meeting, surveys were launched to collect stakeholders’ input to the SRIA. More information on the consultation process is available here.

The partnership proposal is jointly supported by the Advanced Materials 2030 Initiative and the Graphene Flagship/2D Materials community. Both initiatives have been working together to draft a detailed concept paper on the partnership proposal and a first version of the SRIA.

These preliminary documents were shared with the European Commission in December 2023 for feedback.

On January 8-9, the Partnership Coordination Panel (PCP) composed of representatives from the Graphene Flagship/2DMI and AMI2030 gathered in Brussels for a face-to-face meeting. This meeting was very relevant to discuss in more detail the expected scope of the partnership and the practicalities of the association that will represent all the Partners other than the EU in the future partnership, among many other important topics. Both communities had plenty of opportunities to mingle.

On January 9th, a meeting was held with representatives from the European Commission (DG-RTD, DG-CNECT and EIC) to discuss the first versions of the SRIA and partnership proposal. Following these exchanges, the draft concept paper on the partnership proposal has been revised and submitted again to the EC for feedback. Both documents are available here.

In parallel, we are working on the appropriate structure and governance of the association to represent the Partners other than the EU in the future partnership.

A public consultation on the draft partnership proposal and the corresponding draft SRIA is expected to take place in spring 2024, once the partnership proposal has been published by the European Commission on its website.
